Jinhai Wang 王金海

👋 Hi! I'm Jinhai 金海.

I am a Ph.D. student in Political Science at HSE University and a Research Assistant at the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID), Institute for Industrial and Market Studies.

My research lies at the intersection of political economy, corporate finance, and accounting, with a particular focus on government–business relations and the political foundations of corporate behavior and capital markets.

I am broadly interested in how political institutions, state priorities, and institutional uncertainty shape corporate strategies, information disclosure, and financial market outcomes. My current research examines corporate political rhetoric, political embeddedness, and firms’ strategic responses to policy changes, technological transformation, and geopolitical shocks, primarily in the context of China. A central question connecting these projects is how firms navigate political and economic institutions, and how their responses influence information production, resource allocation, and market efficiency.

Methodologically, I combine theory-driven empirical research with causal inference and computational social science. I am particularly interested in using large-scale textual data, natural language processing, and large language models to measure political and organizational phenomena that are difficult to capture through conventional quantitative indicators.

My academic background spans finance, political science, and historical anthropology. This interdisciplinary training informs my broader interest in institutional development, state–business relations, and the political economy of China, with a growing interest in comparative perspectives involving Russia and other state-influenced economies.

I welcome research collaborations that connect political economy, institutional and organizational analysis, and empirical corporate research, particularly projects addressing theoretically important questions through rigorous quantitative methods.
